Are we confusing influence with significance?
Are we here to be known or to be helpful?
Everyone wants to be an influencer online, no one wants to just serve people offline.
We live in a culture that’s all about visibility.
We have confused visibility with significance.
Imagine what your business would be like if the one thing people knew about you is that you cared.
Would you rather have 100 Google reviews or 1000 followers?
I can honestly tell you that NO one has ever told me they’ve come to our shop, let alone purchased anything, because they follow me on Instagram.
Connor was a young man who wrapped cars for us about 10 years ago. He had his own business and lots of followers so he showed me how to get lots of followers as well.
It was a bit of work but we got to 1000 followers.
If people make a decision to purchase from you because of a social media post or influencer that’s great! I’ll take it.
Here’s the problem.
As discussed in an earlier post, a customer is a one-time sale.
And if they came to you via a social influencer, they can be influenced to leave and purchase from another company by the next social influencer…
UNLESS, you give them a reason to stay.
You see, whether you found me by email, YouTube, or graphics on my truck doesn’t matter.
What matters is that I meet your needs today and show you that I’m a reliable person who can meet your needs tomorrow.
That’s called a relationship.
Do you have an old friend or associate that you haven’t seen in 5 or 10 years and when you get together again you pick up right where you left off?
That’s a valuable relationship.
Our formula for success for the last 15 years has been valuable people + valuable relationships = valuable results.
