What is imposter syndrome?
Hey, I’m no psych guy but I can tell you that every human being has self confidence struggles.
I’ve made thousands of phone calls to prospects, existing clients and super satisfied clients who are the best cheerleaders for my business and have given me 5-star reviews and 4-paragraph thank-you letters…and yet sometimes it feels like that phone weighs a thousand pounds and I can hardly pick it up.
And even though I have hundreds and hundreds of 5-star reviews, the 1-star reviews creep back into my thoughts from time to time.
I heard a great sermon one time about how your thoughts are like airplanes and you are the air traffic controller of your mind.
When a negative thought comes into your mind (and it can be as simple as self doubt: “Who do you think you are? You’re no expert.”), you need to recognize that as an accusation and a lie. It’s NOT true and you have the data to prove it.
That’s where your reviews and thank-you emails are so good to read again.
I tag every Google review, whether positive or negative, in my email plus I take a screenshot of the review with my reply.
That has 2 benefits. I read them when I’m feeling self doubt.
PLUS I have a copy of each email in case the Google AI enforcement bots take them away.
I might not be as awesome as I think I am on my BEST days, but I’m certainly not as bad as my self doubt accusations say I am on my WORST day.
For the most part, people are good. If you are a person (like I am), for the most part you are good.
So back to my air traffic controller scenario.
Do NOT give those negative thoughts permission to land.
You didn’t ask them to fly into your airspace (mind space). You give them a command heading to fly right out of your area!
